How To Transition Into A Spring Skincare RoutineSarah Malouf
Spring has officially sprung and we’re ready to help you take your skincare game up a notch! Join us as we share the best tips for jump starting your healthy skin routine this season. We’ll cover everything from how to choose the right products, to what makes them work, and which ones are good for you!
First things first, if you aren’t already wearing a daily SPF – what are you waiting for?! Whether you’re at the beach or simply going to and from the office, SPF is an absolute must. Wearing SPF not only aids in skin cancer prevention, but will also help to prevent future sunspots and signs of early aging. We understand that different skin types are better suited for different products – including sunscreens! So, if you have dry skin, we’d recommend trying either EltaMD Restore or AlumierMD’s Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF 40. On the other hand, if you tend to run a bit oiler, go for EltaMD’s UV Clear! (BTW- pro tip for our oilier gals: try using Jan Marini’s Multi-Acid Resurfacing Pads once every 1-2 weeks in order to keep your pores clear and your complexion radiant!)
Next up: moisturizer. During the spring and summer months, try changing out your winter moisturizer for one better suited for warmer weather. Switching from a heavier moisturizer to a humectant will allow your skin to breathe, resulting in less clogging and breakouts. At TSC, we’re currently obsessed with Vivier – both their Ultimage gel & also the Brightening Cream!
Okay, now we know that (unfortunately), sun happens. So, in case you do find yourself tending to sunburns due to overexposure or harsh rays, here’s what we’d recommend: AcARRE Bio Oil. This luxurious and hydrating serum has calming properties that help reduce redness and inflammation. Not to mention – it both smells and feels amazing! If you can’t manage to get your hands on a bottle of the bio oil, we’d recommend OTC aloe vera plus hydrocortisone if you’re itchy.
Looking for a new routine ? The Skin Consult team of experts can help. Lets start with understanding how our skin’s needs change as we go from cold to warm weather.
- Level of moisture in our skin could be at a low due to the cold weather. If you live in dry areas like Denver or Chicago, your skin could use a good dose of humectant based serums or moisturizers to boost your skin with water molecules.
- Dry skin means there is a thin layer of dead skin cells that are prohibiting your other skin care from doing its work. So adding a good exfoliating acid or serum to your regimen for spring could reveal fresh skin allowing it to glow.
- While we firmly believe everyone should be using a SPF year round, this is the time to evaluate your sunscreen and making sure you are stocked up. Exposing our unprotected skin to UVA and UVB rays is the biggest cause for anti-aging signs such as fine lines and dark spots.
